Total Bust...

So my cake class last night was a bust, I know I should enjoy each moment of "learning" but when I can't USE it then I get frustrated! So we were able to either bring a cake or cupcakes....so I chose cupcakes! Then they showed us how to make faces (those freak me out) and clown bodies (another freak out) and dots and star flowers and drop flowers....the flowers were what I was looking forward to but I was highly disappointed when they didn't look nearly as nice as the did in the book. Apparently THOSE are made with a different icing, not buttercream so that's why they look nice and smooth in the book versus icing blobs that I was making. So, I turned my boring white icing into a pretty turquoise color and swirled icing on top of my cupcakes and threw on some white sugar crystals. Oh, and I did scrape up the scary clown and put it on top of one cupcake to give to my sister (she has an odd fear of clowns). So in true sisterly love fashion, I gave it to her. :)

Ok, now to the good stuff..............*drumroll please*

Tuesday's mini-bella-blog-candy winner is......................................
#72 Ida!!!

I'm with your sister - I have a fear of clowns, too. It's strange, I know, but...

Congratulations to Tuesday's winner. I subscribed, too, but I've been a faithful since the Bella swap. I miss our conversations.

You'll get better with the flowers. I never mastered some, but I could do others pretty well. I think most flowers are made from royal icing which is gross, but it holds up well. My personal favorite way to decorate a cake is stars... you know all the cute shape pans, I did a Pooh cake once for my son. I did a doll cake for my daughter, too, when she turned 3 (she's 9 now) and that was fun. Anyway, I'm babbling! Have a great stamping filled weekend!!

Oh hehe ... love the "in true sisterly fashion" comment. (I have four sisters!) I also have a fear of clowns. One of my sisters had taken a very close up pic of a clown at a parade and mailed it to me as a postcard ... with "I see you!" written on the back. Sisters ... gotta love 'em! :) hahaha

You are inspiring me to try my hand at cake decorating. Won't my DH be pleased? Another hobby!?!?

Keep at it! I'm looking forward to your creations! Did you take a pic of your clown??

Hi Jilly!

That icing will get you every time. Buttercream is either too thick, too thin... has to be different consistencies depending on what kind of flower you're making. And one teaspoon extra of milk seems to turn a bowl full of buttercream into soup. lol! If only we all had fully-stocked bakeries at our disposal with all different kinds and consistencies and colors of icing! :) In a Marth Stewart moment of mine I tried to make some pretty sugar cookies once and decorate them with royal icing. It looks nice and easy on TV... hahaha. The stuff was soooo thin (so it would spread) that none of it stuck to the cookie. So in a moment of frustration I left it on the counter and walked away. Only to come back a few hours later and find it dried solid as a rock. Nice! :) When is your last class? Oh, and I do have to agree... clowns are very very creepy!
